Why Orbit · For Contractors
We're a utility contractor that got tired of building the same broken systems three times. Then we built Orbit. Then we sold it.
DB Utility installs meters, runs surveys, and replaces lines for water utilities across 21 states. Hundreds of crews. Thousands of work orders a month. Real margins to defend.
We tried everything you've tried. Excel. Access. Google Sheets. The ERP a consultant sold us. The "field service" software that was built for an entirely different industry. The custom build a freelancer made in 2019 that nobody can maintain.
Every one of them broke. Either the field crews wouldn't use it, or the dispatcher had to maintain three systems in parallel, or the billing files didn't match what the utility's CIS expected, or the foreman just kept using paper.
So in 2024 we built our own.
Built by the operators who run the crews. Built around the WOs that pay the foremen. Built with the fields a Republic Services or a New Chicago actually needs to invoice. Built for the iPad in the truck, not for the dashboard the consultant promised.
By 2026 we'd built so much into it that we realized: this is just better than anything else out there for utility contractors. We're not selling a SaaS pitch. We're selling the software we actually use.

The differences that matter
Every bug we hit, you don't. Every feature you need, we needed first. Our roadmap is just what our own operations team complained about this month.
Meter installs, lid cuts, line replacements, hand-dig protocols, prevailing wage, multi-utility billing files. Not "field service" with utility-shaped holes punched in it.
Every WO has a cost, a sell, and a margin — live, not at month-end. Worker Intelligence shows you breakeven per crew member. Bookkeeper closes the loop.
Pay per work order. Hire as many foremen, dispatchers, and admins as you need. The pricing rewards growth instead of penalizing it.
30 to 60 days from kickoff to your first WO in Orbit. Not nine months of consultant invoices.
You'll talk to operators on your demo. Not a sales engineer reading from a deck.
